{"id":2225,"date":"2025-03-06T06:45:00","date_gmt":"2025-03-06T11:45:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/passit.ca\/real-estate-pulse\/?p=2225"},"modified":"2025-08-27T15:04:03","modified_gmt":"2025-08-27T19:04:03","slug":"upcoming-tresa-changes-to-the-humber-college-real-estate-program","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/passit.ca\/real-estate-pulse\/upcoming-tresa-changes-to-the-humber-college-real-estate-program\/","title":{"rendered":"Upcoming TRESA Changes to the Humber Polytechnic Real Estate Program"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<pre class=\"wp-block-preformatted\"><strong>The Short Story:<\/strong> TRESA Phase 2 came into effect December 1<sup>st<\/sup>, 2023, but all Humber exams prior to October 1st 2025 are still based on <strong>REBBA<\/strong>.<br><br>As of October 1, 2025, all Humber real estate courses and exams will transition from REBBA to TRESA. Until then, any exam written before October 1 remains based on REBBA, and Passit guides reflect those current materials. If your exam or re-write is scheduled or planned for after October 1, you should wait for the new TRESA-based Passit guides (released in phases, starting with Course 1) before purchasing.<br><br>This article was originally published in 2023 and subsequently updated in 2024 and 2025.<\/pre>\n\n\n\n<p>TRESA Phase 2 came into effect December 1<sup>st<\/sup>, 2023. Humber Polytechnic* real estate course materials and exams <a href=\"https:\/\/passit.ca\/real-estate-pulse\/how-to-navigate-ontarios-real-estate-education-changes\/\">will be changing to reflect TRESA starting in the summer of 2025<\/a>. Currently, students learn REBBA throughout the pre-registration phase and TRESA is only introduced in the final course (Course 5, which has no exam). <strong>Consequently, all Humber real estate exams are currently based solely on REBBA, not TRESA.<\/strong> <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-small-font-size\"><em>*In 2024, Humber College changed its name to Humber Polytechnic<\/em>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">What Changed?<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>The new TRESA requirements enhance consumer protection and improve RECO&#8217;s regulatory powers. These changes will significantly impact your day-to-day activities as a registrant and are the most substantive updates to Ontario real estate legislation since REBBA 2002. Here is a <strong><em>very brief<\/em> <\/strong>overview of several significant changes that came into force in December:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>REBBA (the <em>Real Estate and Business Brokers Act<\/em>) was renamed TRESA (<em>Trust in Real Estate Services Act<\/em>).<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>There are no more customer relationships; all individuals are either clients or self-represented.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>A <em>RECO Information Guide<\/em> must be provided to all clients and self-represented parties prior to providing any services.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Brokerages can use designated representation as an alternative to multiple representation in specific circumstances. <\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Sellers can now choose how much other information, if any, they want to share about the offers they receive. This can include price, conditions, closing date, etc. (personal information remains confidential).<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>There are new requirements for disclosures, consents and acknowledgements to ensure they are concise, written in plain language and readily understandable.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>RECO&#8217;s powers have expanded to improve compliance and enforcement.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>The Code of Ethics has been revised to focus on ethical obligations, with compliance specifics moved to the TRESA Regulations.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>The scope and authority of the Discipline Committee has been broadened.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><em>Note:<\/em> These are the most notable changes with the greatest impact. There are additional Phase 2 requirements not mentioned here.  <\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">How Do These Changes Impact You?<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">As a Humber Polytechnic Real Estate Student:<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>There&#8217;s nothing to worry about <em>right now<\/em>. Changes will be announced by Humber in advance and Passit study guides will be in sync with these updates.  We will ensure these changes are seamlessly integrated into your learning experience.  As always, Passit study guides will be skillfully tailored to ensure that you have a stress-free study experience.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">As a New Real Estate Salesperson:<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>TRESA changes are important and will take time to learn and understand. TRESA modules are now integrated into Course 5 and additional resources are available at <a href=\"https:\/\/www.reco.on.ca\/agents-and-brokerages\/tresa-explained\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">RECO&#8217;s website<\/a>. Take comfort in knowing that you are not alone in this transition \u2014&nbsp;every real estate salesperson and broker in Ontario (there are over 90,000) are sifting through these updates and learning how the changes impact their legal and ethical obligations. Take advantage of all available resources, especially <a href=\"https:\/\/www.reco.on.ca\/agents-and-brokerages\/tresa-explained\/reco-bulletins\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">RECO Bulletins<\/a>. Once you are registered, you will also have access to:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Info provided by your brokerage; and<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Local real estate board resources and OREA forms (if you are a member of organized real estate).<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">What Do I Need To Do <em>Now<\/em>?<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>If you&#8217;re currently completing the Humber Polytechnic Real Estate Salesperson Program, stay focused on <strong>current course materials<\/strong>. The course changes have not yet been finalized, so diving too far into TRESA updates will overload you with details that are not yet applicable for exam purposes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Course 1 and Course 2 will be significantly impacted by these updates. Strategically,<strong> it is a great idea to finish these courses prior to the changeover<\/strong>. You still need to learn all about TRESA, but you can avoid some immediate stress and confusion that may result from navigating Humber&#8217;s course updates.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>If you are nearly finished the Salesperson Program and will be registering with RECO in the near future, it&#8217;s an ideal time to get up-to-speed on TRESA changes in your spare time. Use the existing resources available at <a href=\"https:\/\/www.reco.on.ca\/agents-and-brokerages\/tresa-explained\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">RECO<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/orea.com\/tresa\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">OREA<\/a>.
