Fleming College to Offer RECO's Real Estate Education Program with Extra Emphasis on Rural Topics

Fleming College has officially announced its Real Estate Learning Program will begin accepting applications this summer, as one of only four institutions in Ontario approved to deliver the Real Estate Council of Ontario’s (RECO’s) real estate registration education curriculum.

What Makes Fleming College’s Program Unique?

Like all approved providers, Fleming College will offer RECO’s curriculum, ensuring students receive the foundational knowledge needed to become a registered real estate professional. However, the Simulation components of Fleming’s program will incorporate additional rural real estate topics tailored to the distinct needs of buyers and sellers outside major urban centers.

Learners will gain specialized knowledge in key topics such as:

  • Septic systems and well water considerations
  • Environmental and agricultural restrictions
  • Seasonal cottages and waterfront properties

New agents will be better equipped to navigate transactions in small-town and rural markets—a major advantage for those planning to work in Peterborough and surrounding regions.

Why This Matters for Future Real Estate Agents

With the recent announcement that multiple providers will offer real estate education starting in summer 2025, aspiring real estate agents now have more options than ever before. However, choosing the right provider can make a big difference in how well-prepared you are for your real estate career. Fleming’s focus on rural real estate makes it an excellent option for those who want to specialize in Ontario’s small-town, cottage and rural markets. The Fleming College program offers a 100% online option, providing greater accessibility for busy professionals, career changers and those balancing other commitments.

Should You Enroll Now or Wait?

If you’re considering a career in real estate, you now have a key decision to make:

  • Enroll immediately at Humber Polytechnic – Avoid transition uncertainty by starting now under the current system. Completing the program before September 2025 ensures a smooth path and avoids a transition phase mid-program next fall.
  • Wait for Fleming’s Program – If you’re interested in rural real estate, waiting for Fleming’s launch could be a smart move. However, as with any new program, early adopters should be prepared for potential hiccups in the initial rollout.

The Bottom Line

Fleming College’s Real Estate Learning Program is a valuable new option for those looking to enter Ontario’s real estate profession, particularly in Eastern Ontario. With its fully online format and rural real estate focus, it provides specialized training that could give graduates a competitive edge in non-urban markets.
