Starting (or Restarting) Your Ontario Real Estate Salesperson Courses in 2026: What You Need to Know
If you’re thinking about becoming a real estate salesperson in Ontario—or picking up where you left off—2025 brought a lot of change, and keeping track of it all wasn’t easy.
Here’s a clear, no-nonsense summary of what happened, why it mattered, and what it means for you now—so you don’t have to piece it together yourself.
The TRESA Conversion is Finally Complete
Ontario’s real estate education officially transitioned from REBBA to TRESA (Trust in Real Estate Services Act).
This was not a cosmetic update—and it was a long time coming. While TRESA legislation came into force in December 2023, new salespeople were still learning REBBA in the summer of 2025. The updated program now aligns with Ontario’s current real estate legislation and reflects today’s requirements relating to:
- Consumer protection
- Transparency and disclosures
- Ethics and professional accountability
What this means for new or returning students:
All exams and course materials are now TRESA-based, not REBBA-based. Older notes, PDFs, summaries or practice questions built for REBBA are no longer reliable and can cost valuable exam marks. Studying with up-to-date materials is critical.
Every Passit Guide is fully updated for TRESA and includes a helpful REBBA to TRESA Quickstart explainer video to help returning learners get up to speed fast.
Additional Education Providers Launched in 2025
For the first time since 2019, Humber Polytechnic is no longer the only provider.
As of mid-2025, students can choose from:
What this means for you:
You can choose the provider that best fits your learning style and support preferences, knowing that the curriculum and exams are the same regardless of the course provider you choose. Visit Comparing RECO-Approved Providers for details.
USA-Based Meazure Learning Now Handles Exams
- Proctortrack is gone
- Exams are now administered by Meazure Learning
- You can write exams in person at test centres or online with live remote proctoring
Why this matters:
The move away from Proctortrack follows years of technical issues that affected exam stability and candidate experience. Transitioning exams to a new testing provider was a necessary step toward a more reliable and secure exam environment. Hopefully, this change will reduce many of the technical frustrations students experienced in the past.
Stricter Exam Rules and Enforcement
Exam oversight has been significantly tightened. Review the RECO Exam Code of Conduct and the detailed RECO Exam Handbook.
Key things students need to know:
- Strict identity verification
- Continuous monitoring (in-person or online)
- Zero tolerance for rule violations
- Serious consequences for misconduct—including invalidated exam results, loss of eligibility to continue or re-register in the program, and potential impacts on current or future registration as a real estate salesperson. RECO’s Exam Misconduct Policy allows for investigations and sanctions where misconduct is suspected.
For a practical breakdown of what to expect, including in-person vs online requirements, our blog covers key Meazure exam rules.
Passing Mark No Longer Published
The exam format itself hasn’t changed (still multiple-choice), but:
- Exam results are reported as PASS / FAIL only
- No percentage score is provided
- RECO no longer publishes the passing standard (which was previously 75%)
Why this matters:
You can’t “aim for a number” anymore. With no published pass mark, Passit’s detailed feedback, performance insights and topic-level tracking help you understand your readiness long before exam day.
Application to the Salesperson Program Requires a RECO ID
All new applicants must now:
- Create a RECO ID first at RECO’s MyWeb portal
- Then choose a provider
- Apply to the program using that RECO ID
Why this matters:
This is the step that trips up many new applicants. The application process starts with RECO, not the provider, and the onboarding flow isn’t always up obvious.
It’s strongly recommended that you research providers first and confirm they’re a good fit for your schedule, learning style and support needs. You then create a RECO ID and begin the application through RECO, which redirects to your selected provider and links your registration correctly.
Humber’s Platform Change (If You’re Restarting There)
If you started the Salesperson Program at Humber prior to October 2025, expect a different course enrollment system and a revised course interface. Specific transition steps are required, including:
- Creating a RECO ID
- Ensuring that ID is properly linked to your Humber learner profile
For many returning students, this has meant additional onboarding steps, delays and technical/administrative hiccups while accounts and course access are sorted out. For assistance, you’ll need to contact Humber Learner Support. Be aware that support info can be difficult to locate and response times have varied during the transition.
Note: You are not required to stay with Humber simply because you started there. All providers support transfers, and many students have chosen to move to a different provider rather than navigate the transition mid-stream with Humber.
