New Providers, New Challenges: How to Navigate Ontario’s Real Estate Education Changes

Big news for aspiring real estate professionals in Ontario! Starting in the summer of 2025, multiple providers will offer RECO’s real estate education courses. That means more choices for new learners—but if you’re currently enrolled in the Humber Polytechnic program, now is the time to focus on finishing to avoid potential transition headaches.

What’s Changing?

Since 2019, Humber Polytechnic has been the sole provider of real estate courses in Ontario. RECO announced today that, starting in the summer of 2025, real estate students will have the option to choose from four institutions:

  • Algonquin College
  • Career College Group
  • Humber Polytechnic
  • Sir Sanford Fleming College of Applied Arts and Technology (Fleming College)

These institutions will deliver RECO’s comprehensive real estate curriculum, redeveloped in 2019. The courses will be fully updated to incorporate all TRESA-related changes.

What This Means for You

If you’re already enrolled in the Humber Polytechnic program, you can continue your studies, but there’s a transition period to be aware of. Based on RECO’s announcement, the current Humber program will stop accepting new students in the spring of 2025. Current students can continue in the existing courses until September 2025. Transition plans will be available soon, outlining options for learners who are still in progress when the changes take effect.

For those considering enrolling now, this is a key decision point:

  • Start now and avoid uncertainty – Fees, timelines and program structures for the new providers have not yet been announced. Enrolling now ensures you can begin the current, established process with no surprises. To avoid transition headaches, you’ll want to complete the courses as soon as possible before the changeover. If you can dedicate the time, now is a great opportunity to get started and possibly finish under the existing system. Passit can help!
  • Wait and take your chances – With multiple providers coming, there may be new options—but also unknowns. Will costs change? Will timelines shift? Will there be new requirements? These details remain unclear.

If you are already enrolled in the Humber Polytechnic program, this is the time to focus and finish before the transition begins. While RECO has confirmed that transition plans will be shared soon, if you finish by September 2025, you won’t have to worry about shifting deadlines, new requirements or any unforeseen obstacles. It’s time to double down! Now is the perfect moment to put in the effort, complete your courses and get registered before any potential disruptions. Grab your Passit Guide and book your next exam!

The Bottom Line

If you’re already in the Humber program, it’s ideal to finish before changes roll out. If you’re thinking about getting started, enrolling now means a clear path forward without unexpected changes.

FYI: This isn’t the first time Ontario’s real estate education system has undergone a major shift. When Humber Polytechnic became the sole provider in 2019, early adopters faced a challenging transition period, including issues with the courses, delays progressing through the program and difficulty getting questions answered. While access to new providers brings exciting opportunities, history shows that being among the first to navigate a new system can come with time-consuming frustrations.

There are still a lot of unanswered questions, but as soon as more details are available, we’ll keep you updated. As always, the team at Passit is here to help, providing trusted, expert-level study guides to ensure you can tackle any Ontario real estate exam with confidence.
